STUDY SUCCESS TO WORK SUCCESS - THE SECRET INGREDIENT

EARNING A DEGREE IS HARD WORK, LANDING WORK POST-GRADUATION CAN BE EVEN HARDER

Finding work after graduation can be a very difficult process. Many put together their CVs and send them off to prospective employers from whom they never hear back.

That is why it is crucial to get a little extra help from your university, whether public or private, to help you make the leap from campus to office. At The Independent Institute of Education, SA's largest and most accredited private higher education institution, students are given all the help they need - from practical, work-focused curricula to crucial job search and on-the-job skills.

Here, we hear from two happy IIE Rosebank College alumni, who are well on their way to career success.

REFILOE graduated with a Diploma in Commerce in Marketing Management in 2018. She landed her first job just 6 months after graduation.

"The coaching session at Rosebank College was really of great help to me, as I have been to quite a few interviews and I realized the past mistakes I have made in previous interviews in terms of making a first impression," she says.

"The tips and examples that were given in terms on how to draft a simple and good CV were impressive. The second interview that I attended after the coaching session I then got the job. I highly appreciate what Rosebank College has done for me."

KAGISO graduated with a Diploma in Accounting and financial computing in 2019. He landed his first job - incredibly - two months BEFORE graduation.

"The experience is very good even though I have a lot to learn in terms of getting used to the system they use to perform the daily duties but the journey has been good so far and enjoy the working environment," he says.

"I would like to thank Rosebank College for the opportunity they gave me to attend the coaching session. It helped me a lot in focusing on the important parts of an interview and how to conduct myself in an interview hence I was accepted as an intern at the company that you referred me to.

"The coaching sessions helped a lot, so keep up the good work in getting our graduates work placement and I wish you all the best in your endeavors as you gave me this opportunity to prove that our graduates have the capability to perform in the workplace. I will make myself proud so that you can also be proud of yourself for giving me this opportunity. It was a great experience to learn what potential employers look for in an employee in terms of the interview."

Moral of the story: When deciding what to study and where, look further than just what you will be doing academically, and find the institution that will go the extra mile to prepare you for the workplace.
