IIE VARSITY COLLEGE LAW STUDENTS EXCEL AT MOOT COURT

Our inaugural IIE LLB Moot court final was a wonderful opportunity for our 1st year LLB students to showcase their oral and written arguments and to test their ability to be flexible in the execution of their arguments. - Fiona Kaplan, Head: School of Law at The IIE’s Varsity College.

TWO first year LLB students from The Independent Institute of Education's Varsity College, Westville: Kiara Govender and Nabeela BhaBha, went head-to-head in the 2019 Moot Court National Final competition against Darshen Naidoo and Jolene Van Niekerk, first year LLB students from the IIE Varsity College Sandton campus.

Naidoo and Van Niekerk argued their way through to being awarded best speakers.

The opportunity for first year The IIE Varsity College LLB students was presented before Advocate Richard Salmon, Advocate Carol Sibiya and Advocate Michelle Posemann. This enabled the first year LLB students to put their advocacy skills to the test.

“Our inaugural IIE LLB Moot court final was a wonderful opportunity for our 1st year LLB students to showcase their oral and written arguments and to test their ability to be flexible in the execution of their arguments. It was evident that a lot of research had gone into their preparations and our students are to be commended on the high standard of their oral arguments which was reiterated by the presiding judges,” said Fiona Kaplan, head of School of Law The IIE’s Varsity College.

A Moot court is a mock court at which law students argue imaginary cases for practise.

The event was attended by past Unisa and UFS LLB students as well as many current students.
