IIE - INAUGURAL DR CHARLES FREYSEN AWARD WINNER ANNOUNCED

JARED SMITH LEADS THE 2022 COHORT OF FINALISTS

The Independent Institute of Education, SA's leading private higher education provider, has announced Jared Smith as the winner of its inaugural Dr Charles Freysen Award winner from the Central Academic Team (CAT) for 2022.


Smith has been with the IIE for seven and half years working in The IIE's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at CAT, first as a Head of Programme and currently as a Deputy Head of Faculty. As a popular a member of the faculty, Smith has demonstrated a high level of academic integrity and a sound work ethic. His passion for his role is infectious and he has contributed to meaningful curricula development and upholding best teaching and learning practice.


The criteria for the award included: 1) Overall quality and Performance, 2) Innovation, Creativity and Leadership, 3) Passion for the Craft and 4) Teamwork and Culture. From the Teaching Portfolio submitted by Smith it was evident that he embodies all of these elements in his role as Deputy Head of Faculty.


Leaning on his experience at both brand and CAT level, Jared has been able to translate his passion for education, language and literature into excellent teaching and learning material, and is a well-deserved winner of the award.


This year's deserving finalists, in addition to Smith, were Priya Ramgovind (Commerce), Yathika Gowpall (Commerce), Amanda Kinners (Law), Nitasha Marimandi (Education).
