CONSIDERING A LAW DEGREE? KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BCom in Law & AN LLB

World of Work • Sep 11, 2020

The difference between the two different law degree options can be a little confusing but we’re here to set the record straight.

Always dreamed of becoming a lawyer? You’re not alone there. Thanks to shows like Suits and Law and Order, many prospective students have considered a career spent in the courtroom. Although these shows are not entirely realistic, being a lawyer is certainly as rewarding! Believe it or not, there’s more than one way that you can achieve your goal of making law your bread and butter. Two of these ways are studying an IIE BCom in Law or an LLB degree.

The difference between these two different law degree options can be a little confusing, but The Independent Institute of Education's Varsity College has some great advice about how to distinguish between the two.

So which do you choose? Have a look at the infographic below to determine what's best suited to you.

Ultimately, it all depends on your personal vision and your dreams. Many tend to go for the BCom Law as it offers a greater degree of flexibility in case you change your mind later on. This often happens and many lawyers decide that they’d like to start a business or pursue something a little different. With a degree that’s a bit more open-ended, you’ll enjoy the peace of mind and freedom that comes with knowing you could change lanes if and when you wanted to.

However, if you feel like you were born to be a lawyer, choosing an LLB certainly won’t harm you or your future.

The career you’ve always wanted is just an IIE qualification away. Click here to start your tomorrow today!
