IIE VARSITY COLLEGE ALUMNUS MAKING GLOBAL FINTECH WAVES

FROM KZN TO THE USA AND BEYOND

IIE Varsity College graduate Mike Greer is taking the global fintech world by storm.

“My goal is to become a serial entrepreneur with multiple impactful businesses,” says Greer, who is currently Head of Growth and Expansion for a global fintech headquartered in Oslo, Norway.

The company provides many of the world’s biggest banks and fintech companies with cutting-edge technology in the tokenisation domain. Greer is in charge of expanding the company’s reach and sourcing new opportunities in the US and Asia Pacific region.

Greer is also the founder of Loop Technologies, which has launched a number of Healthtech patents and is currently in talks with multiple foreign private equity firms to rapidly expand the company. Greer also founded Upstaff and Ecobaggz.

“The most rewarding part about my work is that I can see the impact business has on the local and global economy. Providing a job is more than simply giving someone a task to complete from 9 to 5. These jobs feed, upskill and provide entire livelihoods,” says Greer.

Commenting on his path to success, Greer says: “My mind was always filled with business ideas and how to find in-demand goods or services. This made me pursue BCom and Honours degrees, to understand business and entrepreneurship in more detail in order to increase my chances of success”.

Greer believes that both his BCom and Honours degrees from The IIE’s Varsity College Pietermaritzburg equipped him to understand the business world in a more granular format. This has helped him in his career and with the founding of his businesses.

“Qualifications and degrees are important in building a successful career. However, what is more important is how one uses their qualification to create their own businesses and legacy. You have two options: work to build someone else’s dream or create your own,” he says.
